CBD comes in a lot of forms: oils, gummies, creams, vape cartridges, teas and sweets. None of them is "best". The right one depends on how you like to take it, how precisely you want to measure it and what fits into your day. This guide compares them side by side, using the products we sell in our Camden shop and online.
| Type | How you use it | Good if you want | Things to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBD oil | Drops under the tongue, held for about a minute, then swallowed | Control over the amount, one drop at a time, and good value per mg | Needs a little counting. Stronger oils have more CBD in every drop |
| CBD gummies | Chewed and swallowed like a sweet | No measuring and no hemp taste | Fixed amount per gummy, so check the label. Keep away from children |
| CBD cream or balm | Massaged into the skin | A body-care or massage routine | For use on the skin only. Patch test first if your skin is sensitive |
| CBD vape cartridge | Inhaled using a 510-thread battery | An alternative to oils and edibles for adults who already vape | Vaping is not risk-free. Over-18s only |
| CBD tea and coffee | Brewed or stirred into hot water | A known amount per cup, as part of a drink you already have | Black and green tea and coffee contain caffeine; rooibos and chamomile don't |
| CBD lollipops and gum | Sucked or chewed | Something easy to carry with a set amount in each piece | They look like ordinary sweets, so store them out of children's reach |
Oil is the choice for people who like control. You can go up or down a drop at a time, and it usually works out the best value per mg. Shake the bottle, put the drops under your tongue, hold them there for about a minute and swallow.
Our CannaPower oils come in 10ml bottles from 500mg to 3500mg, plus a 2500mg CBG oil. If you're new to CBD, the 500mg and 1000mg bottles are easier to measure in small amounts: the 500mg works out at about 2.5mg a drop. The 2500mg and 3500mg oils pack more into each drop, so a single drop of either is already over the FSA's suggested 10mg a day. See all CBD oils or read our CBD oil buying guide.
Gummies are the no-fuss option. There's no dropper and no earthy taste, and every gummy has a set amount of CBD that's printed on the label. Our own CannaPower gummies come in tubs from 400mg to 4800mg, and we also stock Royal Hemp Co., Supreme and sugar-free Hempthy gummies. The total on the tub is for the whole tub, so always check how much is in each gummy. See CannaPower gummies or read how to choose CBD gummies.
Creams and balms go on the skin as part of a skincare or massage routine, rather than being swallowed. Our CannaPower CBD Relief Cream comes in 1000mg and 5000mg 100ml tubs, and Royal Hemp Co. make a 5000mg CBD cream and a 2000mg CBD + 2000mg CBG cream. Plenty of customers use a cream and also take an oil or gummies; they're simply different ways of using CBD. Read CBD balm vs CBD cream or see creams and balms.
Our CannaPower cartridges come in 1g (500mg CBD and 100mg CBG) and 0.5g sizes, in several flavours, and fit standard 510-thread batteries such as the CCELL M4. They're for adults who already vape. Vaping anything is not risk-free. See vape cartridges.
If you'd rather have CBD as part of something you already do, Multitrance teas have 7.5mg of CBD per bag (black, green, rooibos and chamomile), their instant cappuccino has 10mg per sachet, and Bubbly Billy Buds lollipops have 10mg each. Read our CBD tea guide or see sweets and edibles.
Whatever you choose, start low and build up slowly, keeping within the Food Standards Agency's advice of no more than 10mg of CBD a day for healthy adults. How much CBD should I take? shows how that works out in drops, gummies and cups of tea. If you're taking more than one CBD product, add them together.
CBD is not a medicine and isn't a treatment for any condition, including sleep problems, anxiety, ADHD or arthritis. Talk to your GP or pharmacist before using CBD if you take any medication (it can interact with some medicines), have a health condition, or are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. If you're struggling, please speak to your GP or call NHS 111. We've written more about this in CBD and arthritis: honest answers.
